US completes delivery of Javelin weapons systems to Georgia

Georgian Defense Minister confirmed that Washington has completed the delivery of all Javelin weapons systems to Georgia (known as Sakartvelo).

On 4 April, the Levan Izoria, Georgian Defense Minister said during his speech in the parliament that Javelin system has been fully purchased and delivered to the country.

“We have launched the process of purchasing the anti-tank missile system. I would like to declare from this high rostrum that we have already fully purchased the Javelin system and it has been delivered to Georgia”, – Defense Minister said.

According to U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, Government of Georgia has requested to purchase 410 Javelin Missiles, and 72 Javelin Command Launch Units (CLUs) (includes two Javelin Block 1 CLUs to be used as spares). Also included are ten Basic Skills Trainers (BST); up to seventy simulated rounds; U.S. Government and contractor technical assistance; transportation; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The total estimated cost is $75 million.

The Javelin system will provide Georgia with an increased capacity to meet its national defense requirements.

Defense Minister also added that Georgia also allocated $8,5 million this year and a similar amount was allocated by the United States for the repair and modernization of helicopters. This is approximately $18,6 million.
