Sweden to upgrade its Gripen fighter jets

Saab, the Swedish aerospace and defense company, has secured an additional order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to ensure the continuous operation and capability improvement of the Gripen C/D fighter aircraft. The order is valued at SEK 579 million ($52.7 million).

This supplementary order encompasses the design of the new development and simulation environments for the Gripen C/D, along with the development of support systems that will enable the harmonization of the Gripen C/D and Gripen E variants for the Swedish customer. It also includes additional equipment and hardware orders.

Lars Tossman, the head of Saab’s Aeronautics business area, emphasized the significance of upgrading the Gripen C/D, stating, “The upgrade of Gripen C/D is an important step in maintaining a high level of operational capability in the turbulent world we live in. It is also important for Gripen C/D to operate beyond 2030.”
