Canadian government invests in modern facilities for Base Petawawa

As laid out in Canada’s defence policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, the Government of Canada is committed to supporting Canadian Armed Forces personnel with modern facilities that are essential to daily operations and training.

Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan highlighted infrastructure investments at 4th Canadian Division Support Base (4 CDSB) Petawawa  with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV) facility, and a visit to the future site of a new Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR) complex.

The CSOR complex project represents a $319-million investment in defence infrastructure and numerous economic development opportunities for local businesses and communities. More than 80 sub-contracts will be tendered through this project, creating an estimated 1,300 jobs during the construction phase.

The 10-building complex will bring previously dispersed CSOR units together, allowing for increased collaboration and efficiency while providing the regiment with modern operational space, training facilities, vehicle maintenance areas, warehouses and medical facilities. CSOR provides the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command with a versatile, multi-mission force, capable of delivering tactical to strategic-level special operational outcomes.

The $26-million TAPV facility project was completed on time and on budget, and created approximately 120 jobs during construction. The 6,800-mTAPV facility will house 59 TAPVs and provides 11 maintenance bays for vehicles and equipment, as well as classrooms.

In total, 113 TAPVs will be operated at 4 CDSB Petawawa, with several already in use. The remaining 54 TAPVs will be housed in existing facilities at the base. These vehicles will be used for a variety of tasks on the battlefield, including reconnaissance and surveillance, security, command and control, and transporting cargo and personnel.
