FLIR debuts Star SAFIRE 380-HLDc airborne thermal imaging system

FLIR Systems releases the new Star SAFIRE 380-HLDc high-definition compact airborne electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) targeting system. Featuring great size, weight, power and cost (SWAP-c), the Star SAFIRE 380-HLDc combines the latest FLIR sensor technology with precision laser designation to give light attack helicopters, and similar platforms true next-generation performance.

The Star SAFIRE 380-HLDc compact, high-definition, multisensor targeting system designed specifically for use on light rotorwing aircraft. The 380-HLDc provides an unmatched “SWaP-T” advantage – Size, Weight and Power plus true Targeting capabilities – in a sensor package tailored to give light attack helicopters the uncompromising Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Targeting (ISR&T) performance required to locate, identify, and engage targets at maximum range.

The Star SAFIRE 380-HLDc is FLIR’s fourth-generation ISR&T solution, the result of more than 20 years of experience designing, producing, integrating, and supporting MIL-STD qualified, combat-proven targeting systems.

Leveraging breakthroughs in optical design and laser technologies, the compact 380-HLDc is able to deliver longer range Positive ID (PID) and more powerful laser designation than previously available in products of this size. As more end users look to expand the mission portfolio of their rotary wing platforms, the 380-HLDc is the perfect answer, enhancing existing ISR capabilities and adding precise targeting without increasing the installation footprint or weight.

With over 1,600 high-definition systems fielded in combat theaters around the world, only FLIR has the invaluable operational experience and global support network to deliver the commercially developed, military qualified (CDMQ) solutions today’s operators demand.

The Star SAFIRE 380-HLDc is the newest member of the Star SAFIRE HD family of interchangeable and digital, high definition, single LRU imaging systems providing a full spectrum of ISR&T capabilities. All of FLIR’s HD cameras have native, high definition digital components and outputs. This means FLIR sensors don’t compress, resize, scale, or convert HD imagery to another format. The HD imagery stays digital from its capture all the way to the output – same resolution, uncompressed, clear and pristine the entire way through.
