Saudi Arabia explores collaboration with Turkish defense industry

Saudi Minister of Defense Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz visited Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in Ankara and Baykar in Istanbul on Wednesday, signaling Saudi Arabia’s interest in strengthening defense ties with Turkey.

During his visits, Prince Khalid was briefed on the capabilities and potential of the two companies, as well as their most prominent projects, modern products, and advanced technologies. He toured the facilities and listened to explanations of their future plans and strategies.

On Tuesday, Prince Khalid met with a delegation from the Turkish Defense Industries Company (ASELSAN) at his residence in Ankara. The delegation briefed him on ASELSAN’s key projects and latest products and services. Senior officials accompanied him during these visits.

On Wednesday, Prince Khalid also met with Defense Industry Agency President Haluk Gorgun and executives of major Turkish industrial companies. The discussions focused on cooperation opportunities in the defense field as aligned with Saudi Vision 2030.

Prince Khalid and Gorgun witnessed the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between Saudi and Turkish companies. The signing ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials from both countries.

Saudi Vision 2030 is a strategic framework aimed at reducing Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil, diversifying its economy, and developing various public service sectors, including defense. Collaboration with Turkey’s advanced defense industry is seen as a step towards achieving these goals.

The Saudi delegation’s visit underscores the potential for a strategic partnership in defense technologies, leveraging Turkey’s expertise in aerospace and military innovations.
