Micropol debuts OptiScan for fast fiber testing

At the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition, Swedish fiber optics manufacturer Micropol introduced a new field-deployable solution designed to accelerate and simplify the testing of tactical fiber networks.

The product, called OptiScan, is engineered specifically for rugged military and defense environments where communication uptime is critical.

According to the company, OptiScan enables “fast and accurate verification of tactical fiber networks” used in systems ranging from battlefield command-and-control to advanced radar platforms. Micropol says the system was developed in close collaboration with defense and field operations professionals.

One of the core features of OptiScan is its ability to test up to 12 optical channels simultaneously in just a few seconds. The company says this capability provides a dramatic time savings compared to conventional optical power meters. In a statement, Micropol emphasized that “OptiScan ensures mission-critical networks remain operational before, during and after deployment.”

OptiScan supports multiple connector types, including Micropol’s proprietary FALCON and PROCON expanded beam solutions, as well as HMA, HMC, and other common military-grade interfaces. The unit can verify cables still wound on reels and is capable of assessing multiple reels connected in series—features aimed at minimizing setup and maintenance time in theater.

The tool is rated for operations in harsh environments with a temperature range of -0°C to +55°C. Designed for single-user operation, OptiScan includes two measurement modes: Loop Mode and Link Mode. In Loop Mode, users receive a simple “Approved” or “Failed” status with no interpretation required, making it ideal for quick pre-deployment checks. Link Mode offers more granular data by measuring attenuation on individual fibers, which the company says is ideal for troubleshooting and performance verification.

Each OptiScan field kit ships with a charger, loopback plug, cleaning kit, and rugged protective case. According to Micropol, the system has already been adopted by the Swedish Armed Forces and is positioned as a tool that enhances communication reliability in real-time operational scenarios.

Micropol develops and manufactures communication solutions based on fiber optics and has long supported military and industrial customers. The introduction of OptiScan reflects growing demand for robust diagnostic tools capable of maintaining complex digital infrastructure in tactical settings.
