China showcases improved Z-19 attack helicopter at China Helicopter Expo

China has unveiled the new version of its new Z-19 attack helicopter during the China Helicopter Expo.

An improved Z-19 attack helicopter is equipped with the millimeter wave radar, which looks very similar to the fire control radar on US AN/APG-78 Longbow.

The Z-19 is designed and developed by China solely for both reconnaissance and attack missions.

“Z-19 is slightly lighter than Z-10 which enables it for more stunts. Z-19 and Z-10 have different features but overall, both command similar range of firepower for attacks. Z-19 flies reconnaissance missions as well as air-to-air and air-to-ground strikes during day and night,” said Jin Jiangcheng, member on the Fenglei aerobatic team.

Z-19 is also known in China as WZ-19.

Sources say that PLA’s Z-10 will also be upgraded by the installation of a millimeter wave radar. As a result, China will be the third country in the world to have equipped its armed helicopters with millimeter wave radar.
