USA military show laser system for mine clearance

The Army and Air Force US developing laser weapons capable of blowing up the mines from the ground. It will allow vehicles to safely destroy mines and other explosives at a distance. Currently, disposal of mines and unexploded ordnance engaged robots or specially trained people in vests .

According to the newspaper Daily Mail, the system Recovery of Airbase Denied by Ordinance or abbreviated RADBO uses a laser to the neutralization of explosive devices from a distance of up to 300 meters. In its work, the installation uses as a manipulator capable of lifting more than 20 kilograms of cargo from the rubble. System complement infrared cameras and two generators, which give more than 1,100 amperes.

The advantage of laser is that it is a safe distance nullifying the threat of improvised explosive devices, bombs, mines and other ordnance nesdetonirovannyh.

The development RADBO attended a military research center AMRDEC (US Army Aviation and Missile Research Development and Engineering Center), a laboratory prototype development (Prototype Integration Facility), combat Air Command (US Air Force Air Combat Command), and the test center Redstone (Redstone Test Center).

The developers say that the system is capable of quickly RADBO clear the area from the hundreds and even thousands of small unexploded ordnance left on the runway. This can greatly help to speed up the recovery process suitability of the aerodrome for flight. Clearance of the runway in the usual way takes days or even weeks.

Laser system is still in the prototype stage, but after all the tests military plans to release more than a dozen RADBO.
