Ukrainian troops rely on Australian Bushmasters

Footage released by the Ukrainian news channel UNITED24 highlights the critical role of Australian-supplied Bushmaster vehicles in the operations of Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces.

The video offers a detailed look at the vehicle’s capabilities, including its EOS R400 remote weapon system, as well as testimonials from Ukrainian soldiers who rely on the Bushmasters during missions in the challenging terrain of the Kursk region in Russia.

The Bushmaster, classified as an Infantry or Protected Mobility Vehicle, was originally deployed by Australian forces during the missions in Afghanistan. Following the withdrawal of Western troops from the region, Australia sent the vehicles to Ukraine, where they have proven invaluable in transporting troops, navigating difficult terrain, and withstanding enemy fire.

A guided tour of the Bushmaster revealed its features, including a 7.62 mm machine gun paired with thermal imaging for day and night operations. Soldiers demonstrated the vehicle’s capacity to rapidly deploy up to 15 armed troops under mortar fire. “The combination of speed, protection, and firepower makes the Bushmaster a ‘death factory,’” one soldier remarked, referencing the vehicle’s 360-degree rotating weapon module with advanced imaging capabilities.

Designed for extreme conditions, the Bushmaster includes air conditioning, armored windows, and reinforced plating to protect its occupants. The vehicle’s high vantage point offers excellent visibility for drivers, while its robust build ensures smooth movement across harsh environments. According to Ukrainian soldiers, the Bushmaster’s reliability has made it a vital asset in their operations.

The video also captured the camaraderie of the Bushmaster crews, who referred to the vehicle as a “home on wheels” amid the chaos of war. Soldiers highlighted its ability to adapt to both offensive and defensive scenarios, demonstrating its versatility on the battlefield.

With its origins in Australian defense engineering, the Bushmaster has transitioned into a cornerstone of Ukraine’s mechanized assault strategy. Its performance underscores the value of international military support in bolstering Ukraine’s resilience against adversaries. The vehicle continues to play a pivotal role in Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to defend its territory and maintain operational momentum in contested regions.
