Ukrainian drones hit Russian fuel train

Ukraine’s military intelligence service has released video footage of a combat drone strike on a Russian fuel train operating in occupied Zaporizhzhia Oblast, in what officials describe as a direct blow to Russian logistical operations.

According to the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR), the operation took place on May 24, 2025, along the Verkhniy Tokmak–Molochansk–Fedorivka railway corridor.

The train was reportedly carrying fuel for military equipment when it was struck in transit by precision-guided drone attacks.

“At least three fuel tankers were destroyed,” GUR said in a release accompanying the video. The footage shows multiple aerial hits on the moving target, resulting in large explosions and heavy fire.

The strike was carried out by active-action drone units under GUR’s command. According to the agency, the attack disrupted Russian military supply chains servicing both occupied Zaporizhzhia and Crimea.

“This was a targeted effort to paralyze Russian logistical routes,” GUR said. The service added that drone strikes remain a core method of pressuring Russian rear-area operations, particularly in regions used as staging grounds for equipment, fuel, and ammunition resupply.

The attack underscores Ukraine’s growing use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) to strike high-value infrastructure targets far behind the front lines. With Russian railways serving as a backbone for transporting fuel, armor, and artillery to southern sectors, any disruption carries potential operational consequences.

GUR has emphasized that such attacks are part of an ongoing campaign to degrade Moscow’s logistical resilience in occupied territory.

This strike adds to a growing number of Ukrainian attacks aimed at railway infrastructure used by Russian forces in the south. Previous strikes have targeted bridges, repair depots, and convoys carrying ammunition or petroleum.
