Ukraine reports successful attack on three Russian helicopters

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has confirmed the destruction of three Russian military helicopters.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, a Russian military Mi-8 multi-purpose helicopter was destroyed by fire on July 24 at the Kryazh airfield in Samara, Russia.

“Just a few days earlier, on July 21, 2024, two more helicopters belonging to the aggressor state were struck by fire in Tomilino, near Moscow—an Mi-28 attack helicopter and a Ka-226 multi-purpose helicopter,” stated the press release.

The statement noted that these two helicopters were located at the Russian “National Helicopter Engineering Center Mil and Kamov.”

The destroyed and damaged Russian helicopters were reportedly used in the ongoing war against Ukraine, according to Ukrainian intelligence.

The Mi-8 is a versatile helicopter used for a variety of roles, including troop transport and logistics, while the Mi-28 is an attack helicopter designed for anti-armor operations and close air support. The Ka-226 is known for its adaptability and is used in both military and civilian roles.
