- RENK America received a $17.99 million contract modification to supply transmission systems for the U.S. Army’s Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle program.
- The modification raises the total contract value to $902.6 million, with work scheduled through December 2028 in Michigan.
RENK America LLC has been awarded a $17.99 million contract modification to support the U.S. Army’s Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle program.
According to the contract notice, RENK America, based in Muskegon, Michigan, received modification P00086 to contract W56HZV-20-C-0124 for the exercise of option quantities tied to the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle, or AMPV, system. The award covers additional transmission-related components used across the vehicle fleet.
The modification includes the production and delivery of 65 hydro-mechanically propelled 800-horsepower transmissions with remanufactured transmission containers. It also covers 90 transmission control modules, 65 shift towers, 65 YEC cables, and associated TEC cables, the notice said.
With this action, the total cumulative face value of the contract rises to $902,627,390. Work under the modification will be performed in Muskegon, Michigan, and is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2028.
Funding for the modification comes from fiscal year 2025 and 2026 procurement accounts for weapons and tracked combat vehicles. Army funds totaling $17,998,120 were obligated at the time of the award, according to the announcement.
Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal, is the contracting activity overseeing the work.
The contract modification comes as the Army continues to expand AMPV procurement. Last week, BAE Systems secured a separate $198.4 million contract modification from the U.S. Army to produce an additional 240 Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicles.
The Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle is a tracked armored platform designed to replace legacy M113 vehicles in U.S. Army formations. The AMPV is intended to operate alongside armored brigade combat teams and is produced in several mission variants, including medical evacuation, medical treatment, command and control, mortar carrier, and general-purpose roles.
The vehicle platform is built by BAE Systems and integrates subsystems from multiple suppliers. The transmission systems provided by RENK America play a central role in mobility and power management, particularly for vehicles operating in heavy formations and difficult terrain.
RENK specializes in propulsion solutions for military tracked vehicles and has long supplied transmissions for U.S. and allied armored platforms. The company’s hydro-mechanical transmission design supports high torque output and controlled power delivery, which are required for modern armored vehicles with increased weight and onboard systems.
Transmission systems are among the most critical components in tracked vehicles, affecting speed, reliability, and maintenance cycles. Army officials have previously emphasized sustainment and readiness as priorities for vehicle modernization programs, particularly as older systems become more difficult to maintain.
The Army has not issued a separate public statement on the modification beyond the contract notice. The service continues to manage the AMPV program through incremental production awards and option exercises tied to annual procurement plans.
