Poland signs $850 million missile deal with U.S.

Poland has finalized a new agreement with the United States to purchase several hundred AIM-120C AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, according to a statement from the Polish Armaments Agency.

The contract, valued at approximately $850 million, marks a critical step in bolstering Poland’s air defense capabilities.

The exact number of missiles included in the deal has not been disclosed. The deliveries are set to begin in 2029 and will continue through 2033. The missiles will be integrated into combat aircraft currently in service with the Polish Armed Forces, enhancing their combat readiness and operational effectiveness.

This agreement is part of Poland’s broader efforts to modernize its military capabilities in response to regional security challenges. The AIM-120C AMRAAM missile is a key component of many NATO air forces, known for its reliability and precision in air-to-air combat.

In addition to the missile purchase, Polish media reports suggest that Warsaw and Washington are on the verge of signing another major defense contract next week. This upcoming deal involves the acquisition of 96 Apache attack helicopters, with an estimated contract value exceeding $9 billion. The Apache helicopters are intended to replace Poland’s aging fleet of Soviet-era helicopters.

The Apache helicopters, renowned for their advanced targeting systems and battlefield versatility, would provide Poland with a robust platform capable of conducting a wide range of military operations, including close air support, reconnaissance, and anti-armor missions. The deal is expected to further strengthen Poland’s defense posture within NATO and its ability to respond to emerging threats in the region.
