The U.S. Defense Logistics Agency Aviation has awarded the multi-million dollar contract to L3Harris Technologies for support of an electronic countermeasures system designed specifically for the B-1B bomber aircraft.
The award, announced by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) on 15 September, is worth more than $52,9 million and enables the company to provide Band 4-8 countermeasure receivers for B-1B aircraft.
“This is a four-year contract with no option periods,” it said in a statement. “Location of performance is New York, with a Sept. 14, 2024, ordering period end date. Using military service is Air Force.”
The system is designed to detect and counter all modes of radar based weapon systems and also provides a tail warning function to detect and counter incoming missiles from the aft sector.
According to L3Harris, the system provides 360-degree simultaneous receive and jamming coverage against a large number of concurrent threats. The ECM system sorts threats by priority and reacts against them automatically while allowing for “man-in-the-loop” intervention.
