KNDS unveils AI-enabled FPV drone for ground robot

Key Points
  • KNDS France unveiled a new payload that connects its NERVA-LG ground robot with FPV aerial drones through a shared control interface.
  • The system enables real-time video return and AI-assisted object detection for rapid target assessment and doubt removal.

At the MILIPOL defense exhibition, KNDS France Robotics introduced a new payload that connects its NERVA-LG ground robot to the broader ecosystem of FPV aerial drones, allowing joint deployment, video integration, and enhanced target identification using AI.

KNDS France Robotics has presented a new payload system that allows its NERVA-LG unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) to fully operate alongside FPV (First-Person View) aerial drones.

The unveiling took place at the MILIPOL exhibition, where the company demonstrated the payload’s ability to bridge ground and air platforms under a unified control interface.

According to the company, the upgrade “enables the integration of all types of FPV drones, from the simplest to the most advanced,” offering direct video return—or data from other sensors—on the same control station used for the NERVA-LG robot. This allows a single operator to manage both ground and aerial platforms in real time without changing hardware.

KNDS France demonstrated the payload using a disposable FPV drone with a five-minute flight time, specifically configured for “doubt removal or rapid identification.” Company representatives explained that the disposable drone could be used to quickly inspect threats, confirm targets, or assess damage before committing larger assets.

The payload also includes onboard artificial intelligence. According to KNDS France, the system uses “AI algorithms to detect weapons or any other objects that may be subject to doubt removal.” This automation assists operators by identifying potentially hostile items or persons without requiring constant manual interpretation of drone feeds.

In addition to sensor integration, the upgrade introduces an advanced stabilization module for smoother, more intuitive drone flight. As noted by the company, “the stabilization enhances drone control, allowing more fluid and precise operation in complex environments.” The system is intended to support both novice and experienced operators in conducting tactical missions in cluttered or urban terrain.

The NERVA-LG platform, originally designed as a lightweight and modular ground robot, has already been deployed by various European defense and security forces. The new payload transforms it into a hub capable of launching and coordinating airborne reconnaissance directly from the field, with immediate sensor feedback and AI-supported classification.
