Israel to supply active protection systems to European customer

Israeli defense company Elbit Systems has announced a $130 million contract to supply Iron Fist Active Protection Systems (APS) to BAE Systems Hägglunds.

The systems will be installed on the CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) for an undisclosed European country. The contract is scheduled to be completed over five and a half years.

The Iron Fist APS is an advanced Hard Kill system designed to enhance the self-defense capabilities of armored platforms against modern battlefield threats. As the Israel Defense Force’s Second-Generation APS, it boasts high performance with minimal volume, weight, and power requirements. The system provides 360-degree protection from a wide range of anti-armor threats, including Anti-Tank Rockets (ATR), Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM), Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and loitering threats, suitable for both open terrain and complex urban environments.

“Following the contracts signed in recent years, we are honored to be awarded this important contract by BAE Systems Hägglunds for a European country,” said Yehuda (Udi) Vered, General Manager of Elbit Systems Land. “Elbit Systems’ Iron Fist Active Protection Systems have once again been selected by a leading OEM and an advanced military as an innovative solution to protect armored platforms and troops, assisting them in accomplishing their missions safely.”

This deal underscores the growing demand for advanced defense technologies in Europe amid rising geopolitical tensions. The Iron Fist APS, known for its high efficiency and adaptability, will significantly bolster the defensive capabilities of the CV90 IFV, a versatile and heavily armored vehicle used by several European armies.

BAE Systems Hägglunds, the manufacturer of the CV90, has partnered with Elbit Systems to integrate this cutting-edge protection system, ensuring enhanced survivability for the infantry fighting vehicle. The collaboration highlights the increasing trend of international defense partnerships aimed at leveraging advanced technologies to address emerging security challenges.
