Israel buys new communication systems from Elbit Systems

The Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D) of the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) has finalized a series of contracts with Elbit Systems worth approximately $130 million (about half a billion shekels).

The agreements involve the supply of advanced communication systems to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to enhance operational capabilities and secure communications across multiple domains.

The contracts include the delivery of thousands of software-defined radio (SDR) units, satellite communication systems, and data-links for autonomous platforms. Additionally, they involve the expansion of regional maintenance centers that operate around the clock to support combat forces. These efforts form part of a broader strategic initiative led by Maj. Gen. (Res.) Eyal Zamir, Director General of the IMOD, to bolster Israel’s manufacturing independence and expand local production lines.

Over the past year, the DDR&D, in collaboration with Elbit Systems and the IDF, has been developing innovative solutions for secure and encrypted communications. These advancements are tailored to meet the evolving needs of IDF units, ensuring reliable and robust connectivity in complex operational environments.

“As a key partner in the IDF’s digital maneuver effort, we take pride in delivering the most advanced and secure tactical communication systems to forces in the field,” said Haim Delmar, General Manager of Elbit Systems C4I & Cyber. “These systems serve as the foundation of a digital army, utilizing a dynamic, intelligent, and cognitive network to enable multi-domain connectivity and operational superiority.”

The new communication systems aim to provide IDF forces with enhanced situational awareness and ensure secure information sharing in real time. Elbit’s advanced technology integrates dynamic and adaptive networks, enabling precision and adaptability on rapidly evolving battlefields.

By ensuring the secure transfer of information, these systems support critical operations and enhance the IDF’s capacity to respond effectively to diverse threats. The addition of satellite communication capabilities will further extend the IDF’s reach and reliability in multi-domain operations.
