Estonia delivers Mistral air defense systems to Ukraine

Estonia has delivered short-range Mistral air defense systems and accompanying missiles to Ukraine, according to a statement from the Estonian Ministry of Defense on X (formerly Twitter).

“Confirmed! Mistral short-range air defence systems and missiles provided by Estonia have been delivered to Ukraine. Let’s keep supporting Ukrainian freedom fighters. Together, we can,” the statement read.

The Mistral system, developed in France, is a modern air defense weapon designed to target helicopters and aircraft. It is available in a portable configuration (MANPADS) and can also be deployed on vehicle, ship, and helicopter launch platforms. The system has a range of up to six kilometers and is intended to defend against low-flying aircraft and helicopters.

Previously, Estonia has provided Ukraine with Javelin anti-tank missile systems, howitzers, artillery, anti-tank mines, anti-tank grenade launchers, mortars, vehicles, communication equipment, field hospitals, medical supplies, personal protective gear, and rations.

As the war in Ukraine continues, international support remains crucial. Estonia’s contributions reflect a broader commitment among Ukraine’s allies to bolster its defense against ongoing aggression.
