Ukrainian Navy blows up Russian landing craft

Ukrainian Naval Forces have struck and destroyed a Russian landing craft carrying troops near the western shoreline of the Kherson region, according to Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa, Commander of the Ukrainian Navy.

This was reported by the Ukrainian defense outlet Militarnyi, which cited a statement from Ukrainian Navy chief Oleksiy Neizhpapa. The vessel belonging to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet was detected as it advanced along the Kherson coast and was then targeted and hit.

Aerial footage released alongside the announcement shows the moment of impact, recorded by a drone. Following the strike, a fire broke out on board the Russian vessel. While the exact type of the craft remains unclear from the imagery, the video confirms the severity of the damage.

The Ukrainian Navy did not specify when the strike took place or how many Russian personnel were aboard at the time of the attack. No casualty figures have been released.

In a brief statement, Vice Admiral Neizhpapa praised Ukrainian sailors for their performance, saying: “I thank our naval personnel for a job well done.”

Although Ukrainian officials have not disclosed what weapon was used in the strike, it is believed that a Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle may have been involved. The TB2 drone, manufactured by Turkey’s Baykar, played a prominent role in Ukraine’s early efforts to counter Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 and remains active in reconnaissance and strike missions.

Ukraine’s Navy continues to operate under contested conditions in the southern theater, where control of the coastline remains strategically vital for logistics, fire support, and denying Russia further amphibious mobility.
