Ukraine to receive French-made kamikaze drones

The French Ministry of Defense has announced the successful testing of its first kamikaze drones, set to be delivered to Ukraine in the coming weeks.

These remotely operated munitions represent a new capability for France, developed in response to the rapidly evolving battlefield needs of both France’s armed forces and its allies.

Speaking about the development, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu stated, “Success of the first tests of remotely operated munitions – also known as kamikaze drones – produced by France. We have regained sovereignty in this critical area for our armed forces in less than two years. Deliveries to Ukraine and our forces will begin in the coming weeks.”

The development and successful testing of these drones is part of France’s broader strategy to enhance its own military capabilities and assist Ukraine in its ongoing defense against Russian aggression. These kamikaze drones, officially known as loitering munitions, are designed to target specific threats on the battlefield, providing high-precision strikes while minimizing risk to operators.

The introduction of French kamikaze drones adds a new tool to Ukraine’s defense arsenal, bolstering its ability to counter Russian invasion troops. Loitering munitions can hover over an area for an extended period before striking, offering versatility in combat situations where traditional artillery or airstrikes may be less effective.
