Testing of Boxer armoured fighting vehicles begins in Lithuania

Lrytas.lt reports that German company Krauss-Maffei Wergmann, the manufacturer of Boxer AFVs, has supplied a variant with a 30 mm remote controlled automatic cannon. The manoeuvrability and capabilities of the vehicle will be observed on Thursday by the leadership of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and experts on weaponry.

A total of 10 manufacturers are participating in the tender to supply wheeled armoured fighting vehicles to the Lithuanian military. Chief of Defence Jonas Vytautas Žukas announced in early July that the Ministry of National Defence had already chosen Boxer AFVs with a 30 mm cannon and anti-tank missiles Javelin.

National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas denied this and said that the final decision had not been made while Žukas only expressed his opinion. According to Olekas, the Ministry stressed a number of times that Boxer is a leader in the tender, but proposals of other companies will be evaluated as well.
