Russian military receives new batch of Malva wheeled howitzers

Russian defense and technology giant Rostec has announced the delivery of another batch of 152mm 2S43 “Malva” wheeled howitzers to Russian military units, just a month after the previous shipment in late June 2024.

The 2S43 Malva is an artillery system mounted on an all-wheel-drive BAZ-6910-027 “Voshchina” chassis with an 8×8 configuration. This self-propelled howitzer uses the 152mm 2A64 rifled gun, similar to the one on the 2S19 “Msta-S”. Its design, which excludes a turret and armor for the gun mount, results in a lighter vehicle that can be transported by aircraft like the Il-76.

The Malva is designed to target command posts, defensive structures, artillery and missile batteries, air defense systems, armored columns, and enemy personnel. The first production models were delivered to the Russian Armed Forces on October 26, 2023.

The “Malva” has already seen action, notably in the Kharkiv region as part of Group “Sever,” where it has faced engagements, including damage from a HIMARS-launched M30A1 GMLRS missile.
