Raytheon to deliver Patriot system to Netherlands

Raytheon, a division of RTX, has secured a $529 million contract to supply the Netherlands with a Patriot air and missile defense system.

The deal, announced this week, includes a single fire unit comprising a radar, launchers, command-and-control stations, and support equipment. This acquisition replenishes a Patriot fire unit previously donated to Ukraine amid ongoing European defense modernization efforts.

“Raytheon is committed to partnering with the Dutch as they continue to advance their integrated air and missile defense capabilities,” said Pete Bata, senior vice president of Global Patriot at Raytheon. “The Netherlands’ investment in Patriot ensures collective security and deterrence across Europe.”

The Netherlands’ decision underscores its commitment to strengthening NATO’s collective defense posture. The Patriot system, widely regarded as the only combat-proven ground-based air and missile defense capability, is a cornerstone of air defense for 19 countries. Designed to counter long-range cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles, and a broad spectrum of aerial threats, the Patriot system has consistently demonstrated its reliability in defending against modern, complex attacks.

The replenishment of the Netherlands’ Patriot unit follows its recent transfer of air defense systems to Ukraine, reflecting broader NATO efforts to support Kyiv while maintaining member states’ defense readiness.

Under the terms of the contract, production and assembly work will take place primarily at Raytheon facilities in Andover, Massachusetts, and Huntsville, Alabama. This work will sustain jobs in the U.S. while providing the Dutch military with cutting-edge air defense capabilities.
