Since its inception, the LITENING system has transformed the way missions are conducted. The pod’s modular design has allowed for iterative upgrades, ensuring it remains at the forefront of operational capabilities. The most recent evolution, LITENING Large Aperture, pushes the boundaries even further, introducing enhanced range, improved resolution, and cutting-edge air-to-air functionality.

The new configuration boasts a 50% increase in resolution, enabling more precise target acquisition and decision-making in dynamic combat environments. Advanced video processing algorithms and upgraded graphics processing units enhance image clarity, offering operators a clearer and faster assessment of the battlefield.

The Large Aperture model also incorporates a three-aperture configuration, expanding sensor capabilities across daylight, mid-wave infrared (IR), short-wave IR, and long-wave IR spectrums. This technological leap ensures that even in the most complex operational scenarios, LITENING remains unmatched in its ability to detect and track targets with accuracy.

Over the past 25 years, LITENING has been deployed in diverse mission sets ranging from precision strikes and air superiority missions to close air support and reconnaissance. Its modular design allows for seamless integration and adaptability, keeping pace with evolving military requirements.

“LITENING Large Aperture is our most advanced targeting pod for your most complex missions,” Northrop Grumman stated. “With Large Aperture, LITENING covers a wider portion of the spectrum than ever before, leaving nowhere to hide.”

Northrop Grumman remains committed to advancing LITENING’s capabilities, ensuring it continues to meet the complex demands of modern warfare. The company’s focus on innovation underscores its dedication to equipping warfighters with the tools needed to succeed across a range of environments.

With 25 years of operational success, LITENING stands as a testament to Northrop Grumman’s legacy of innovation in defense technology, offering unparalleled precision and adaptability to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
