Mystery buyer in Europe orders Australian ‘drone killer’ systems

Electro Optic Systems Holdings (EOS), an Australian defense technology company, announced it has secured a €31 million (approx. A$53 million) order for its Slinger Counter-Drone Remote Weapon Systems (RWS) from a European naval integrator.

According to a statement by EOS, the new order represents the largest to date for the Slinger platform and marks the company’s most extensive naval RWS contract.

The systems will be tailored for maritime deployment and will include a variety of weapon configurations, including cannon-equipped variants. The deal also covers spare parts, training packages, and ancillary components.

“The systems are intended to address urgent operational requirements in Europe,” the company said.

Deliveries are scheduled for 2025 and 2026.

EOS describes the Slinger as its flagship counter-drone solution. Developed to defeat unmanned aerial threats in complex environments, the system integrates high-precision optics and remote-controlled weapons with real-time threat detection. Originally designed for land platforms, the adaptation of Slinger to naval environments reflects evolving threats to maritime security, particularly from small UAVs and loitering munitions.

In addition to this latest contract, EOS has delivered Slinger RWS units to Ukraine, where they are being used to counter persistent drone threats from Russian forces. The deployment supports frontline efforts to protect personnel and infrastructure from UAV and loitering munition attacks.

The European order follows a series of aggressive sales efforts by EOS targeting high-growth defense markets, particularly in regions facing increasing drone activity. While the purchasing government was not identified, the company noted that the acquisition responds to operational priorities amid rising concern about drone warfare in European theaters.
