Missile-equipped farm plane spotted in Ukraine

A video circulating on TikTok appears to show, for the first time, a modernized Zlin Z-137 Agro Turbo aircraft modified to carry and launch missiles.

The clip was shared by the open-source intelligence community Tysk, which wrote: “Flight of a turboprop Moravan Z-137 Agro Turbo, converted to launch missiles, somewhere over Ukraine.”

The footage has not been independently verified, and the location and date remain unconfirmed. However, some analysts believe it was filmed in Ukraine in late July, based on visible wheat harvesting in the background.

The Zlin Z-137 Agro Turbo is a Czechoslovak-designed agricultural aircraft, typically used for crop dusting. In the video, the aircraft appears to have been outfitted for military use, carrying what seem to be R-73 (NATO reporting name AA-11 Archer) air-to-air missiles.

Experts noted several unusual features. Unlike many Ukrainian-modified aircraft that carry blue-and-yellow national markings to prevent friendly fire incidents, this aircraft did not display such paintwork. Instead, it bore quick recognition stripes on its tail—markings more commonly seen in operations between 2015 and 2018.

While the exact configuration of the weapons cannot be confirmed from the footage, the adaptation of an agricultural airframe for combat roles reflects a broader Ukrainian trend of improvisation in the face of ongoing conflict. In past cases, Ukraine has repurposed civilian aircraft for surveillance, logistics, and even direct attack missions when traditional combat aircraft were unavailable or unsuitable.

If genuine, the sighting of a missile-equipped Z-137 would mark another example of unconventional platforms being pressed into service. Agricultural aircraft, with their robust structures and low-speed handling, can be modified to operate from short or improvised runways and to carry modest payloads, making them useful for niche roles such as localized defense, harassment, or surprise strikes.

The Tysk OSINT community has not released further details about the aircraft’s deployment or the unit operating it. Ukrainian defense authorities have not commented on the video.
