Lockheed Receives $123M to grow missile arsenal

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, based in Orlando, Florida, has secured a $122.6 million modification to a previously awarded contract aimed at procuring essential tooling and test equipment.

This acquisition is specifically designed to enhance the production capabilities of the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) and Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM).

The modification to contract FA8682-19-C-0008 was awarded through a sole-source acquisition by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. Work under this agreement is expected to be completed by July 14, 2028, with all activities centered in Orlando, Florida.

The JASSM is a precision-guided, stealthy cruise missile developed to enable U.S. forces to engage heavily defended targets from extended ranges. Its design features low-observability characteristics that reduce detection, allowing for precise strikes in hostile environments with minimized risk to launching aircraft.

The LRASM, derived from the JASSM design, is specifically engineered to address maritime threats at long distances. Equipped with sophisticated sensors and autonomous targeting capabilities, the LRASM is capable of identifying, tracking, and engaging enemy ships in complex environments without direct external guidance.
