- Elbit Systems secured $150 million in contracts from BAE Systems Hägglunds to supply Iron Fist active protection systems for CV90 infantry fighting vehicles used by European NATO members.
- The contracts follow a 2025 European live-fire trial in which Iron Fist intercepted 120mm kinetic-energy tank rounds, according to the company.
Israeli Elbit Systems has secured new contracts worth a combined $150 million to supply its Iron Fist Active Protection System for integration on CV90 infantry fighting vehicles operated by European NATO member states, the company confirmed.
According to a press release from Elbit Systems, the contracts were awarded by BAE Systems Hägglunds, the producer of the CV90 platform. The systems will be installed on CV90 infantry fighting vehicles in service with multiple European NATO countries, though specific customers and delivery schedules were not disclosed.
The announcement follows a major milestone achieved in September 2025, when Elbit Systems conducted a live-fire demonstration of the Iron Fist APS in Europe. During the trial, the system successfully intercepted more than a dozen 120mm kinetic-energy armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot rounds, according to the company. The demonstration was attended by senior military officials and defense industry representatives.
Elbit Systems said the test validated Iron Fist’s capability against high-end anti-armor threats, including kinetic-energy projectiles typically fired by modern main battle tanks. Intercepting such rounds is considered technically demanding due to their speed and penetration characteristics.
Iron Fist is a hard-kill active protection system designed to detect, track, and neutralize incoming threats before impact. It is described by Elbit as the Israel Defense Forces’ second-generation APS and is engineered with relatively low weight, power consumption, and volume to support integration on a wide range of armored platforms.
The system provides 360-degree protection against multiple threat types, including anti-tank rockets, anti-tank guided missiles, unmanned aerial systems, loitering munitions, and kinetic-energy tank ammunition. Elbit Systems said Iron Fist is designed to operate in both open terrain and complex urban environments.
Integration on the CV90 places Iron Fist on one of Europe’s most widely used infantry fighting vehicles. The CV90 family is operated by several NATO members and partner nations and is undergoing continuous upgrades focused on protection, sensors, and battlefield survivability.
Elbit Systems said Iron Fist has been selected by several NATO and non-NATO armed forces for installation on different combat platforms, reflecting broader adoption of active protection technologies as armored vehicles face increasingly advanced threats on modern battlefields.
“Elbit Systems’ Iron Fist continues to strengthen its presence among Western armies, reflecting growing confidence in the system’s capabilities across Europe and beyond,” said Yehuda (Udi) Vered, General Manager of Elbit Systems Land. “The results of our recent live-fire trials only reinforce this trust. We value the strong partnership we have developed with BAE Systems Hägglunds, which plays a key role in expanding our footprint across Europe, and we are proud that our solution will enhance the protection of more forces around the world.”
The company did not specify whether the new contracts cover new-build vehicles, retrofit programs, or a combination of both.
