Boxer, the UK’s new wheeled armored fighting vehicle, has successfully completed a critical seawater fording trial at Instow Beach in North Devon.
The 38.5-tonne vehicle demonstrated reliable stability and maneuverability in coastal waters, reinforcing its potential as a multi-environment asset for the British armed forces.
The trial, led by the Amphibious Trials and Development Wing (ATDW), assessed Boxer’s ability to operate in unprepared water conditions, a crucial capability in environments where rapidly deployable forces are needed.
Boxer’s design allows it to adapt seamlessly to different operational requirements, making it a versatile vehicle for both offensive and defensive operations. The platform’s successful water fording test marks another step in establishing its comprehensive operational readiness, adding to its recent achievements in mobility trials.
Boxer is set to become the new British Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV), an eight-by-eight-wheeled, all-terrain, armored transport vehicle.
In November 2019 523 Boxer vehicles were ordered in four build configurations, covering eleven different roles.
