Anduril Industries has announced that its Dive-XL Extra-Large Autonomous Undersea Vehicle (XL-AUV) has achieved a new milestone by completing a 100-hour single voyage—the longest recorded for a vehicle of its class.
The announcement, made on Monday, highlights the Dive-XL’s potential to revolutionize maritime operations with its endurance and adaptability.
By 2025, Dive-XL is set to embark on an unprecedented 1,000-nautical-mile, fully submerged mission, marking a significant step toward multi-thousand-mile operational deployments. This achievement underscores the platform’s capabilities in extended, autonomous undersea missions.
As noted by the company, Dive-XL offers three core advantages for maritime operations: the vehicle’s ability to operate fully submerged for extended periods enables it to perform in contested environments; its modular design accommodates various payloads for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), strike missions, and more; manufactured at Anduril’s Rhode Island facility, the vehicle can be rapidly and affordably produced at a scale required by the U.S. and its allies.
“Dive-XL represents the pinnacle of innovation in maritime autonomy,” Anduril Industries stated. Already integrated into the Royal Australian Navy’s Ghost Shark program, the XL-AUV demonstrates how autonomous systems are redefining undersea operations. The company emphasized that scalable and autonomous solutions like Dive-XL are essential to maintaining a strategic advantage amid growing maritime threats.
Dive-XL’s versatility and production scalability make it a critical asset for the U.S. and allied navies as they adapt to evolving security challenges. With its record-setting performance and ambitious future goals, Dive-XL is poised to set new standards in autonomous maritime operations.
