- Militarnyi reported that a soldier from Ukraine’s 1020th air-defense regiment destroyed 24 Shahed drones in one night.
- Ukraine has begun mass production of the STING drone interceptor and opened a three-day operator training center.
A Ukrainian soldier serving in the 1020th Air Defense Missile and Artillery Regiment has set a record by destroying 24 Shahed-type kamikaze drones during a single night.
The report was published by Militarnyi, which stated that the achievement was made by a serviceman with the call sign “Miguel.”
As noted by Militarnyi, “a soldier of the 1020th regiment destroyed 24 kamikaze drones in one night.” According to the outlet, the serviceman continues to serve in the same regiment and operates air-defense assets used to intercept incoming threats during overnight Russian attacks.
The report appears at a time when Ukraine has launched mass production of the STING drone interceptor system. At the beginning of November, it became known that Ukraine had established mass production of STING interceptors and created a training center for preparing their operators. The outlet says the development team worked on STING for more than a year “to create a mass, simple and accessible interceptor to counter the Shaheds.”
According to the information published, the system can be deployed in up to 15 minutes. The drone launches without a catapult from any flat surface, climbs within seconds, and immediately pursues the target. Company representatives working on the project say the platform was intentionally designed for quick reaction during night attacks that often involve large groups of kamikaze drones.
The interceptor can be retargeted mid-mission if another threat emerges, or its launch can be canceled “if the object is not detected or has been destroyed by another means.” The system gives operators the ability to adjust during changes in flight behavior, which often occur when Shahed drones maneuver or descend during the final phase of their programmed route.
The STING platform, the report said, “is a quadcopter of classic design with a large dome in the center, where the warhead and camera are located.”
Developers say this configuration provides enough space to carry the onboard sensor package and the explosive charge used during close-range interception. The stated effective range for engaging Shahed drones is “up to 25 kilometers,” according to the published information.
