- Japan hosted Indian Air Force Su-30MKI pilots at Komatsu Air Base for professional exchanges and an F-15 familiarization flight.
- The visit aimed to deepen mutual understanding and trust between the two air forces under the Japan-India Defense Cooperation Initiative (JIDIP).
The Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) hosted Indian Air Force (IAF) Su-30MKI pilots at Komatsu Air Base.
According to a post by the JASDF’s Public Affairs Office, the visiting Indian pilots participated in professional exchanges with Japan’s Air Tactics Development Squadron pilots and took part in an orientation flight aboard a JASDF F-15 fighter. The exercise aimed to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen trust between the two air forces.
“Through discussions and the Indian pilots’ F-15 familiarization flight, we sought to promote mutual understanding and enhance our relationship of trust,” the JASDF said in a statement.
The exchange took place under the framework of the Japan-India Defense Cooperation Initiative (JIDIP), which supports closer coordination between the two countries’ air forces across the Indo-Pacific region.
The engagement reflects Japan’s continuing effort to expand military ties with key Indo-Pacific partners amid rising regional security challenges. For India, it builds on a pattern of defense cooperation exercises such as “Veer Guardian,” which brought IAF Su-30MKIs and JASDF F-15s together in Japan in early 2023.

While the event focused on professional training and cultural exchange, analysts view it as part of a broader strategic alignment between Tokyo and New Delhi, aimed at ensuring a stable balance of power in the region.
Both nations have committed to regular joint air and maritime engagements under JIDIP, strengthening interoperability and information sharing between their armed forces.
