US Army awards Airbus $315M for Lakota helicopter support

Airbus U.S. Space & Defense Inc. has been awarded a $315 million contract modification by the U.S. Army for continued logistics support and engineering services for the UH-72 Lakota helicopter fleet.

The contract, managed by the Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, extends through December 31, 2025, with work to be performed in Grand Prairie, Texas.

The funding includes $85,621,324 in fiscal 2025 operation and maintenance funds, allocated at the time of the award. This latest agreement underscores the pivotal role the UH-72 Lakota plays in the U.S. Army’s operations across various domains.

The UH-72 Lakota, derived from Airbus’s H145 family of helicopters, has been a critical asset for U.S. Army and National Guard units since its introduction. Known for its versatility and reconfigurable design, the Lakota supports a wide array of missions, including: training,
light attack and reconnaissance, Search and Rescue (SAR), Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC), disaster response, homeland defense and drug Interdiction, command and control, VIP transport.

Operating in 49 states and U.S. territories, the Lakota provides vital capabilities in challenging environments, making it an indispensable component of the Army’s aviation fleet.

Based on the Airbus H145, the Lakota benefits from a robust design and advanced technology, ensuring efficiency and safety in both military and civilian roles.
