240th Quartermaster Supply Co. makes bulk fuel history prepping for Anakonda ’16

Our Soldiers from the 240th Quartermaster Supply Company’s Fuel and Water Platoon made history as the first American bulk fuel unit to receive and store petroleum at a fuel system supply point in the country of Poland on May 22,” said Maj. Shelia Day, 18th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Executive Officer.

Before this support of the massive NATO exercise Anakonda 2016, the 18th CSSB, 16th Sustainment Brigade unit last directed fuel and water operations while establishing an FSSP and Tactical Water Purification System storage and distribution site during exercise Saber Junction 2016 in Grafenwoehr, Germany.

“This shows the commitment our Soldiers possess for logistical support to NATO, our host nation, and the Regionally Allocated Forces,” said Cpt. Joseph Taylor, 240th QMSC Commander.

An established fuel supply is a force enabler that maintains readiness in a Strong Europe and the platoon is becoming more proficient with the FSSP with this training.

“Laying out the system and establishing the fuel flow is a challenging experience,” said Spc. Yhasmin Hillman, a petroleum supply specialist with the unit. “I’m elated to see the company make history by wetting the bags for the first time in Poland.”
