Ukrainian troops sever Russian supply lines in Kursk region

The Ukrainian military has successfully disrupted enemy logistics in the Kursk region of Russia, according to volunteer and blogger Serhiy Sternenko.

This operation has involved cutting off and encircling a Russian grouping estimated to consist of 3,000 troops, effectively isolating them in the area.

Recent footage published by Sternenko shows Ukrainian strikes on makeshift bridges and enemy columns in Kursk, including the complete destruction of a pontoon bridge the Russians attempted to construct across the Seim River. This was in lieu of bridges previously destroyed by Ukrainian forces. These actions are part of a broader effort to block Russian movements and neutralize their ability to resupply or reinforce their positions.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the bold offensive in Kursk not only surprised Russian forces but also the Ukrainian soldiers involved. “The daring advance near Kursk stunned Russia, with Ukrainians overcoming weak border defenses and quickly capturing about 100 settlements in the region. However, even for the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine participating in the advance, the operation was unexpected,” journalists noted.

The architect of the operation, identified only as Syrskyi in reports, is known for his ability to act unpredictably and suddenly—a tactic that proved effective during the 2022 Kharkov offensive as well. The Kursk operation has been widely recognized for its planning, secrecy, and swift execution.

Former advisor to the commander-in-chief, Serhiy Cherevy, praised Syrskyi’s approach, stating, “Syrskyi’s strength is that he is a general who can act unusually, suddenly, unexpectedly for the enemy. He knows we do not have parity, and we cannot go head-to-head, so he uses cunning and any advantage we have.”
