Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces have struck and destroyed a previously undocumented variant of Russia’s Pantsir-S1 (SA-22 Greyhound) air defense system, according to combat footage analyzed by the open-source intelligence community Exilenova+, which identified the system mounted on an uncommon heavy Belarusian MZKT-7930 chassis.
Footage released online shows the moment a Ukrainian strike drone hits the Pantsir system positioned near the front line. Analysts noted that the vehicle differs from standard production configurations typically deployed by Russian forces, drawing attention due to its unusual chassis design.
According to analysis shared within the OSINT community and referenced by Ukrainian defense observers, the destroyed system was mounted on a heavy MZKT-7930 multi-purpose wheeled chassis manufactured in Belarus.
The standard Pantsir-S1 configuration is normally installed on the 8×8 KamAZ-6560 truck platform, while less common variants have appeared on BAZ-6309 chassis and export versions mounted on the MAN SX45 vehicle.

The newly observed configuration had not previously been publicly documented in operational service. Defense analysts noted that a similar configuration appeared only as a display mock-up during a defense exhibition in 2009, making the combat loss the first confirmed visual evidence of the variant in active deployment.

As reported by Ukrainian sources, the strike was carried out by Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, which specialize in drone-based reconnaissance and precision attacks against high-value Russian military equipment.
The Pantsir-S1 is a combined gun-and-missile point-defense system designed to protect military formations and strategic assets from aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones. The platform integrates radar detection systems with short-range surface-to-air missiles and dual automatic cannons capable of engaging targets at close range.
Pantsir systems act as the final defensive layer around higher-value air defense assets such as long-range missile batteries or logistics hubs. Their role is to intercept incoming threats that penetrate outer defensive rings, particularly low-flying drones and precision-guided weapons.
Because of this role, destroying Pantsir systems can create gaps in layered air defense networks, allowing Ukrainian drones and strike systems greater freedom of operation. Ukrainian forces have increasingly focused on identifying and targeting these systems using reconnaissance drones and precision loitering munitions.
Open-source tracking group Oryx, which documents equipment losses based on publicly available visual evidence, has recorded at least 41 Russian Pantsir systems destroyed or damaged since the start of the full-scale war. Ukrainian officials have also stated that sustained targeting efforts have resulted in the destruction of roughly half of Russia’s deployed Pantsir systems, though independent verification of that broader claim remains limited to visual confirmation data.
The appearance of the MZKT-7930-based variant suggests ongoing experimentation or adaptation within Russian air defense deployments, possibly driven by chassis availability or operational requirements. Earlier developmental versions of the Pantsir system were also mounted on Belarusian-made platforms, although those differed structurally from later serial production models.
The discovery underscores how battlefield losses continue to reveal previously unseen equipment configurations that had not been publicly acknowledged before combat use. Modern conflicts increasingly expose prototype or limited-production systems through combat footage rather than official announcements.
