Ukraine blows up Russian Iskander missile system

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have released video footage showing the destruction of a Russian Iskander ballistic missile launcher in Russia’s Bryansk region.

The strike reportedly targeted a site near the city of Klintsy, where Russian missile forces had concentrated prior to a planned launch.

According to an official statement, Ukrainian forces, operating in coordination with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and other defense units, conducted a missile strike that successfully hit a Russian tactical missile unit from the 26th Rocket Brigade.

“The unit, stationed in the area of Klintsy, Bryansk region, was preparing to strike a Ukrainian population center—likely the capital, Kyiv,” the statement said.

The video, released by the Ukrainian military, appears to show a violent explosion consistent with the ignition of solid rocket propellant, followed by secondary detonations.

The Armed Forces said one Iskander missile launcher was completely destroyed and two additional systems were likely damaged in the strike.

Ukrainian officials credited “effective reconnaissance” and close cooperation between the military and security services for enabling the successful operation. The statement emphasized that the prompt destruction of the missile system prevented potential casualties and damage within Ukrainian territory.

“Effective and timely combat work by Ukrainian defenders made it possible to avoid civilian casualties,” the Ukrainian side said.

The Iskander system, a road-mobile short-range ballistic missile platform, has been used by Russian forces throughout the full-scale invasion.

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, Ukrainian officials added.
