UAV Navigation joins European future combat aircraft program

Spanish UAV Navigation-Grupo Oesía has announced its involvement in the ambitious European Future Combat Air System (FCAS) program, which seeks to develop a next-generation weapon system (NGWS) that integrates manned fighters and remotely piloted air systems, all connected through a Combat Cloud.

The company’s collaboration comes through its work with SATNUS Technologies SL, a consortium formed by GMV, Sener Aeroespacial, and Tecnobit-Grupo Oesía. Within the FCAS framework, UAV Navigation-Grupo Oesía will contribute to Pillar 3 of Remote Operators, focusing on the development of remotely piloted components for the NGWS.

As noted by the company, Airbus GmbH leads this pillar at the European level, with MBDA overseeing French participation and SATNUS representing Spain’s efforts.

As part of the FCAS initiative, UAV Navigation-Grupo Oesía will provide its autopilot system for the Manned-Unmanned Teaming & Common Systems Demonstrator (MCSD), a key element of the project’s first phase of technology demonstrations. The MCSD, led by SATNUS, will play a critical role in advancing Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUT) concepts and architectures, allowing for the testing and validation of new technologies.

The FCAS program, considered one of Europe’s most advanced defense initiatives, aims to secure air superiority in future conflicts by integrating manned and unmanned assets.
