On 26 August 2015, an agreement was signed between Russia and Syria that stipulated terms and conditions of use by Russia of Syria’s Hmeimim airport, free of charge and with no time limit
Russia placed at the airbase attack aircraft Sukhoi Su-34 (NATO reporting name: Fullback), Sukhoi Su-24 (NATO reporting name: Fencer), Sukhoi Su-30SM (NATO reporting name: Flanker), Sukhoi Su-25 Grach (NATO reporting name: “Frogfoot”) and Mi-8 AMTSh Assault Transport Helicopter, Mil Mi-24 ( NATO reporting name: Hind) attack helicopter, Ilyushin Il-20 ELINT (Electronic Intelligence) platform, Ilyushin Il-76 (NATO reporting name: Candid) Long Range Transport Aircraft.
Russian forces in Syria were reported to have used a mix of precision-guided munitions and unguided weapons.
