The Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a ground attack without deploying infantry, relying solely on unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and first-person view (FPV) drones for the first time.
The breakthrough operation occurred near Lyptsi in the Kharkiv region, according to a press release from the 13th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine.
The attack involved dozens of robotic systems equipped with machine guns, which were used to engage Russian positions. The UGVs also performed crucial engineering tasks, such as laying and clearing mines in the operational area.
The spokesperson for the Ukrainian brigade operating in the Kharkiv direction confirmed the operation’s success. “Ukrainian forces conducted the attack with dozens of UGVs equipped with machine guns and successfully destroyed Russian positions during the attack,” the spokesperson stated.
Is this the future?: First-ever fully drone-operated assault on Russian positions.

This marks one of the first instances in human history where an armed conflict relied entirely on robotic systems for a ground assault, showcasing Ukraine’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology in its defense efforts.
Ukraine’s increasing reliance on robotics is part of a broader strategy to address its manpower limitations in contrast to Russia’s approach, which has been characterized by high casualty rates and mass assaults. Ukrainian officials have frequently emphasized the importance of asymmetric warfare and technological innovation to offset these disparities.
Ukraine is relying more on robotics to achieve parity with Russia’s overwhelming numbers. This approach is designed to counter Russia’s tactics, which have been likened to the human wave assaults of the Korean War and World War II.
