Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has approved the deployment of the domestically produced Wolly remote-controlled combat module for use by its Defense Forces.
The lightweight, low-cost system is equipped with either a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun, featuring an automated ammunition feed system, a thermal imaging camera, and an advanced automatic target detection, recognition, and tracking system.
The Main Directorate for Weaponry and Military Equipment Lifecycle Support confirmed the module’s readiness for operational use. The design incorporates technological solutions informed by feedback from front-line troops and lessons learned during combat operations.
“Ukrainian manufacturers have integrated technological advancements into the combat module based on requests from the field and the real combat experience of Ukrainian defenders,” said Deputy Defense Minister Dmytro Klymenkov. “Several proposals for module operation and process automation were taken into account.”
The Wolly combat module is designed for ease of transport and rapid deployment. Its lightweight construction allows a single soldier to deliver it to its installation site. The system’s battery can sustain several days of operation, ensuring reliability in prolonged engagements.
The turret’s thermal imaging capability and automated target recognition make it highly effective in various operational environments. The automation of certain functions reduces the cognitive and physical load on operators, enabling them to focus on broader tactical objectives.
The Wolly turret represents a cost-effective solution for enhancing force protection and firepower on the battlefield. Its portability and adaptability make it suitable for static defense positions, mobile operations, and perimeter security. By integrating lessons learned from combat, the system provides Ukrainian forces with a modernized tool to counter evolving threats.
