Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defense has secured a new contract for 27 additional Boxer-Vilkas infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).
The new deal was signed last week by the Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) on behalf of Lithuania with Germany’s ARTEC consortium, representing the next phase of Lithuania’s armored vehicle acquisition program.
“These new Vilkas vehicles will enhance the operational capabilities of the Iron Wolf Brigade, improving our maneuver and combat power, indirect fire support, and air defense capabilities,” said Lithuanian Defence Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas. “This acquisition marks a significant step forward in our ongoing modernization efforts.”
The Lithuanian Army has already received 89 Boxer-Vilkas vehicles, which are currently in use by the Algirdas and Birutė battalions of the Iron Wolf Brigade. These IFVs have been actively deployed in military exercises, contributing to Lithuania’s defense readiness.
The contract, valued at up to €370 million, includes not only the additional IFVs but also logistics support such as spare parts, maintenance equipment, and training. Delivery of the vehicles is expected between 2027 and 2029.
The Boxer-Vilkas vehicles, produced by ARTEC, are equipped with Israeli-made weapon stations and armed with 30mm MK-44S cannons from the U.S. and Spike LR anti-tank missiles from Israel. Each vehicle is fitted with advanced electronic systems to meet the specific needs of the Lithuanian Army.
As part of the OCCAR Boxer program, Lithuania works alongside Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom to procure these advanced armored vehicles. OCCAR oversees the contract and ensures effective delivery and coordination between manufacturers and participating nations.
