Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering Starts Testing Barys 8×8 Wheeled Armored Vehicle

“Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering” LLP, one of the largest company in Central Asia producing advanced armored wheeled vehicles, has started testing Barys 8×8 wheeled armored vehicle.

The new Barys 8×8 armored personnel carrier is equipped with a remote controlled gun system. The primary armament of the turret is 30 mm automatic cannon 2A42, also known as the Shipunov 2A42, and a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, developed by the Kazakhstan plant for the production of defense electronic products “KAE” jointly with the Turkish company “Aselsan”.

The test program provides for firing from installed weapons, both during the day and at night under all weather conditions and battle environments.

The Barys 8×8, also called Mbombe 8, has been developed Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering to meet the increasing demand for multi-role, high mobility and mine hardened platforms, and for the changing demands of the global battlefield.

The Barys 8×8 is based on the design of Paramount’s Mbombe 6 that employs an innovative new form of construction to give unprecedented levels of protection, while keeping profile to a minimum. The 8×8 also draws on the company’s experience of designing the highly effective and battle-tested Marauder and Matador mine-resistant vehicles.  Its flat enclosure provides protection from explosion from below and high load capacity provides more opportunities. Low silhouette of the hull increases the survival rate, due to the difficulties of getting on the car. Continuous operation at high loads and temperatures from -50 to +50°C.

THE BARYS 8×8 SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Gross weight of 28 tonnes and kerb weight of 19 tonnes
  • Payload of 9 tonnes which covers weapon system, ammunition, crew and supplies
  • Powered by a 6 cylinder engine turbo charged diesel engine
  • Six speed automatic transmission
  • Max speed of 110km/h
  • Operating range: 800 km

The vehicle features mine-resistant flat floor technology which is central to the design of the 8×8 platform. The armoured hull provides excellent stopping power against ballistic attack (STANAG 4569 level 3 as standard) and anti-tank land mine explosions (STANAG level 4a and 4b).
