Indonesia unveils P2 Tiger armored vehicle

Indonesian defense manufacturer PT Sentra Surya Ekajaya (PT SSE) introduced the P2 Tiger 4×4 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) at its headquarters in Tangerang, Jakarta.

The unveiling, attended by high-ranking officials from Indonesia and France, marks a significant step in modernizing Indonesia’s defense capabilities and enhancing its local defense manufacturing sector.

The event included key figures such as Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Defense, Air Marshal Donny Ermawan Taufanto, and French Ambassador to Indonesia, Fabien Penone, alongside representatives from Texelis, PT SSE’s French partner in developing the P2 Tiger.

The P2 Tiger is PT SSE’s most advanced armored vehicle, designed to meet the Indonesian Army’s needs while targeting export markets. It features a modular design with NATO-standard STANAG 4569 ballistic and mine protection levels ranging from Level 2 to 4. The vehicle accommodates up to eight passengers and two crew members, with a gross vehicle weight of 18 tons.

Developed in collaboration with Texelis, the P2 Tiger incorporates the French company’s Celeris mobility platform. This system, based on Texelis’ experience with the French Army’s Serval APC, includes a Cummins 375hp engine, an Allison automatic transmission, and independent suspension for enhanced off-road performance. “The Texelis team is very supportive and communicative, from design to commissioning. The relationship between us and them is excellent,” said Yusuf, PT SSE’s Technology Director.

PT SSE took charge of designing and producing the P2 Tiger’s armored hull, assembling all components at its Tangerang facility. The company also integrated tactical and combat systems, underscoring Indonesia’s growing defense manufacturing capabilities.

“This is our most complex but fastest development,” said Eka Suryajaya, CEO of PT SSE. “Texelis’ support has allowed us to streamline the process, ensuring we deliver a high-quality product in record time.”

The P2 Tiger is tailored for Indonesia’s unique operational requirements, including troop transport, logistical support, command operations, and reconnaissance. Its compatibility with the A400M transport aircraft enhances deployment flexibility.

The cooperation between PT SSE and Texelis reflects the growing strategic partnership between Indonesia and France, which celebrates 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2025. French and Indonesian authorities, including the French Defense Mission and Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense, have actively supported this collaboration.

The P2 Tiger program is a testament to PT SSE’s ambition to strengthen Indonesia’s defense industry. “Knowledge and technology transfer are at the core of this project,” Yusuf emphasized, adding that the vehicle is ready for both domestic use and export markets.

Jean Vandel, CEO of Texelis, highlighted the partnership’s success: “This program proves the relevance of our approach. The P2 Tiger is an Indonesian vehicle with French expertise, embodying the strength of international collaboration.”
