Hanwha showcases Chunmoo, K9, and L-SAM systems at EDEX 2025

Hanwha Aerospace opened its exhibition at the Egypt Defence Expo (EDEX) 2025 today with a broad showcase of ground and air defense systems aimed at deepening cooperation with the Egyptian Armed Forces. The South Korean company is positioning its offerings as comprehensive modernization solutions tailored for Egypt’s operational requirements.

At the center of Hanwha’s presentation is the Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MRLS). The company is displaying full-scale models of four Chunmoo missile types, including the Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile (ASBM). The missile variants on display feature operational ranges from 80 kilometers to 290 kilometers, demonstrating the system’s adaptability across different mission sets.

Hanwha Aerospace says the Chunmoo is ready to meet Egypt’s evolving needs and is supported by operational experience in Poland and across the Middle East.

In a statement, the company said it “aims to position the Chunmoo system as the optimal MRLS solution for the Egyptian Armed Forces,” emphasizing its modular launch configuration and precision engagement capabilities.

The company is also using the exhibition to highlight its expanding cooperation with Egypt on the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer program. With local production scheduled to begin, Hanwha has brought what it describes as the full K9 package, including:

  • K10 Ammunition Resupply Vehicle
  • K11 Fire Direction Center Vehicle
  • Advanced 155mm precision-guided munitions
  • Modular Charge System (MCS)

Making its debut at EDEX 2025 is the K11-N, an armored fire direction vehicle adapted for Egypt’s coastal defense needs. According to the company, the K11-N integrates an Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) and onboard radar for tracking hostile surface targets at sea.

Sung Il, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Region at Hanwha Aerospace, emphasized the company’s strategic focus on long-term collaboration with Egypt.

“Hanwha Aerospace has already established a solid strategic partnership with Egypt through the K9 program,” he said. “Through this exhibition, we intend to continue contributing to the enhancement of Egypt’s national defence capabilities by providing tailored solutions that meet the specific requirements of the Egyptian Armed Forces.”

In response to the growing demand for layered air defense solutions in the region, Hanwha is also promoting its integrated missile defense portfolio at EDEX. The exhibit includes:

  • L-SAM (Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile)
  • M-SAM (Medium-range Surface-to-Air Missile)
  • Counter-UAS technologies designed to neutralize drone threats across military and critical infrastructure domains.

The company is also featuring the TAipers anti-tank guided missile, compatible with a wide range of ground platforms, and three configurations of the Tigon armored vehicle, positioned as modern replacements for legacy armored fleets in Egypt and other African markets.
