Exercise of the Russian surface action group started in the Mediterranean Sea

On August 15, the Russian surface action group started tactic exercises in the Eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. The maneuvers in the Mediterranean are held in accordance to the combat training plan of the Russian Navy.

Capabilities of the Fleet forces for actions connected with settling crisis situations caused by terrorist threats will be inspected in course of the tactic exercise.

Serpukhov and Zeleny Dol newest small-sized missile ships in cooperation with ships of the permanent formation of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea are to perform several tasks including artillery and missile firing in conditions close resembling the combat ones.

Serpukhov and Zeleny Dol newest small-sized missile ships are armed with Kalibr naval based cruise missiles. Russian ships used missiles of this class in order to carry out effective strikes on objects of the ISIS terrorist organization located in Syria in 2015.
