Belgium delivered 50 tracked armored personnel carrier M113 to Indonesia

The government of Belgium delivered 50 M113  tracked armored personnel carrier to Indonesia.

The 50 unit of  M113  tracked armored personnel carrier  had arrived from Belgium by sea to the port of Indonesia in May. In a gesture of goodwill, Belgium  has decided to provide total  150 M113  tracked armored personnel carrier to Indonesia as a gift.

The M113 is a fully tracked armored personnel carrier that was developed by Food Machinery Corp (FMC). The vehicle was first fielded by the United States Army’s mechanized infantry units in Vietnam in April 1962.

The M113 became the most widely produced and utilized APC of the western world.  Since production commenced in 1961 well over 32 000 M113s and its derivatives have been received by the US Army alone and the overall production in total in 2001 has reached nearly 85 000 of all types. It is the most massively produced armored vehicle in the world. M113 and its variants are in service with at least 50 countries.
