IDF launches joint military operation against Iran

Key Points
  • Israel Defense Forces confirmed the launch of Operation Roaring Lion, a joint military campaign conducted with United States armed forces targeting Iranian capabilities
  • Israeli officials said the operation aims to degrade threats linked to Iran and counter support for proxy forces positioned along Israel’s borders

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that Israeli and United States armed forces have launched a broad joint military campaign against Iran under the name Operation Roaring Lion, describing the effort as a coordinated operation aimed at degrading Iranian capabilities viewed as threats to Israel.

The declaration comes as military exchanges between Israel, Iran, and the United States continue to expand, with missile launches, airstrikes, and heightened regional defense activity already underway. Israeli officials framed the operation as a response to ongoing security concerns tied to Iranian military support for regional proxy forces and long-term threats directed at Israel.

“OPERATION ROARING LION: The IDF and the U.S Armed Forces have launched a broad & joint operation to thoroughly degrade the Iranian terrorist regime and to remove existential threats to Israel over time,” the Israel Defense Forces said in its official statement.

The military added that “The Iranian regime has not abandoned its plan to destroy Israel. The regime has continued financing, training, and arming its proxies positioned on Israel’s borders.” The statement continued: “These actions constitute an existential threat to Israel and pose a danger to the Middle East and the world as a whole.”

In a separate message, the IDF stated: “Israel has the right to defend itself.”

The announcement represents formal confirmation by Israel’s military leadership that ongoing strikes and defensive operations are part of a named joint campaign conducted alongside United States forces. Neither Israel nor the United States immediately released operational details such as force composition, target lists, or timelines associated with Operation Roaring Lion.

According to the IDF statement, the campaign’s objective is to degrade Iranian capabilities over time rather than achieve a single immediate operational outcome. Such wording indicates a phased military effort, typically involving repeated strikes, defensive operations, and sustained readiness across multiple domains.
