U.S. companies unite to bring AI targeting to future combat vehicles

AimLock, a developer of autonomous targeting and engagement systems, announced a new partnership with Overland AI, the leading provider of ground autonomy for defense, to integrate AimLock’s systems into Overland’s ULTRA autonomous ground vehicle.

The collaboration aims to deliver modular, multi-mission capabilities for the modern battlefield using a human-in-the-loop approach.

According to the companies, the partnership combines Overland’s expertise in robotic mobility with AimLock’s precision engagement technology to create an adaptable platform that can operate in contested and GPS-denied environments while maintaining combat effectiveness.

ULTRA — short for Unmanned, Lightweight, Tactical, Robotic, Autonomous — is described by Overland AI as a mission-ready vehicle built for high-risk and complex operational environments. The platform is designed to be modular and attritable, capable of performing autonomous maneuvers and supporting kinetic operations across a range of missions.

“The evolution of autonomy on the battlefield is changing the very nature of ground operations as we know it, and our systems are at the forefront of helping the warfighter prevail against the enemy,” said Bryan Bockmon, CEO of AimLock. “We are proud to be partnering with Overland AI on bringing AimLock’s autonomous systems to its ULTRA and to support their mission of equipping our armed forces with the most advanced, dependable autonomy solutions to increase ground power and save lives.”

As noted by AimLock, its systems are powered by proprietary Core Targeting Modules known as Keystone (CTM), which will now be integrated into ULTRA vehicles to enable precision targeting and rapid engagement across multiple mission sets. These include counter-drone defense, force protection, direct action, strike anti-armor, and support-by-fire operations.

The companies say the integration will allow ULTRA to deliver “decision-accelerating kinetic solutions” and operate effectively in degraded environments, such as those affected by jamming or denied communications.

Overland AI’s ULTRA platform is compatible with the full suite of AimLock’s systems — including the Spur, Rampart, Summit, Switchback, and ROLS — allowing the platform to be tailored to specific mission and user requirements. This modularity gives commanders greater flexibility to reconfigure vehicles for different operational demands, from anti-armor engagements to base defense and surveillance.

“Overland AI is transforming our warfighter’s capability through robotics and artificial intelligence increasing their safety and effectiveness on the battlefield,” said Byron Boots, co-founder and CEO of Overland AI. “We are especially proud to partner with AimLock, whose multi-mission solutions exemplify the versatility of our payload integrations and give the Armed Forces a decisive advantage across every terrain and domain.”

By combining precision targeting and advanced robotics, AimLock and Overland AI are positioning themselves at the forefront of what many analysts describe as a new era of autonomous warfare — where machines operate with human oversight but execute missions faster and more safely than traditional systems.

As both companies emphasized, the partnership focuses on enabling autonomy while maintaining human control in the loop — ensuring that U.S. and allied forces can leverage advanced robotics without compromising ethical and operational oversight.
