U.S. Army buys 112 more Humvees from AM General

AM General LLC of South Bend, Indiana, has secured a contract modification worth $50,974,838 for the production of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), the U.S. Department of War announced.

According to the Pentagon, the modification covers the procurement of an additional 112 M1152A1B2 and M1165A1B3 Humvee variants. This action brings the total cumulative face value of the contract, identified as W912CH-24-F-0229, to $3,114,701,067.

The U.S. Army Contracting Command at Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, is the contracting activity overseeing the program. Work locations and funding allocations will be determined with each order placed, the announcement said. The estimated completion date for the contract is August 28, 2027.

On September 18, the Pentagon also announced that AM General was awarded a $13 million modification (P00035) to the same contract (W912CH-24-F-0229) for the procurement of M1152 Humvees for Lebanon. The order highlights the vehicle’s role in U.S. foreign military assistance and its presence in partner forces beyond American units.

The Humvee, first introduced in the 1980s, remains a staple of U.S. and allied ground forces despite the introduction of newer platforms like the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).

In a statement, AM General has previously emphasized its role as a longstanding supplier of tactical vehicles, noting that its production facilities are capable of meeting the Army’s needs with speed and reliability. The company remains the sole manufacturer of the Humvee platform, which continues to be delivered not only to U.S. forces but also to a wide range of international partners through Foreign Military Sales programs.
